So you want to serve on the Camp Parsons Staff?

Having been around for so long, Camp Parsons has a fair amount of traditions, and one of those traditions is the outstanding staff that work each summer season. Since 1919 the staff chain has been unbroken. That is to say that each year, one staff overlaps with another with regards to personnel. As a result of this, traditions have been handed down from year to year. The staff that join today will be in the same long line as those who began in 1919.

Camp Parsons is a Scouts BSA resident camp. The staff come into residence in mid-June and live at camp until mid-August. The staff is housed in buildings and usually paired with a roommate. Each living area has a bathroom facility with flush toilets and shower. Mattresses are supplied and bedding is encouraged over sleeping bags. There are laundry facilities. Salaries are provided for staff aged 16 and older. Food is also supplied and cooked three times a day for the staff. However, much more importantly, each scout that works for us will walk away with experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime. Most of our staff continue in Scouting because they gain a new interest in the scouting program while staffing at summer camp. Many most likely would have never completed their Eagle requirements. Summer camp staffing develops character and self confidence. How many 16 year-olds do you know that have to put in 12-plus hours each day, six days each week, maintain class schedules and instruct scouts in various skills much as any school teacher would, and be responsible for the safety of scouts within their areas? This along with personal management such as maintaining their living spaces, laundry, and keeping to a strict work schedule.

Any registered scout/scouter aged 15 and older can apply for the camp staff. Although we do hire 15-year-olds, salaried positions begin at 16 years of age and are based on years of experience, position and special training.

We also offer a 1-2 week counselor-in-training program for those aged 14-15. Please see our CIT page for more details.

Applications for next summer will be available later this fall. If you’re interested in working on staff — either as a CIT or on full-summer staff — please fill out the CIT Contact Form and we’ll notify you when applications are open.
